2016-17 Course Requests
The student window for course requests will be open from February 5th - February 10th!  Students can view teacher recommendations, and make additional course requests, through Parent Portal during that time. Click here for directions on how to use Parent Portal to make those requests. In addition, the course catalog is available by clicking here. Students who need assistance logging in to Parent Portal can see Mrs. Treichler. Counselors will be meeting with individual students to discuss their 2016-17 schedules.
Reading & Writing SOL Remediation
Attention Seniors! Click here to view the remediation schedule if you still need to take the Reading SOL or the Writing SOL. This information is also available from the left navigation menu under "Testing Information" > "SOL Review Schedule."
Registering for AP courses in 2016-17
We encourage all students to take at least one Advanced Placement (AP) course in order to have a college level course of study while in high school. Your counselor will give you a copy of this enrollment letter to read and sign before your schedule is finalized.  Return the signed letter to your counselor. If you are planning to take more than three AP courses in one year, please meet with Hylton's AP Coordinator in order to discuss your schedule. Email Mrs. Holt at holtmh@pwcs.edu for an appointment.
AP Capstone™ Program at Hylton Begins Fall 2016
Are you interested in being part of the AP Capstone Program at Hylton? If you are currently in your sophomore year, consider this "innovative diploma program that helps you stand out in the college admission process by developing skills needed to succeed in college and in life". Hylton is offering the first of the two year sequence of courses, the AP® Seminar course, in 2016-17.  Visit www.collegeboard.org/apcapstone for more information and talk to your school counselor.
Juniors: Apply for Girls' State!
American Legion Auxiliary 364 has now made available applications for this summer’s session of Girls State, to be held at Longwood University from June 19-25, 2016. Applicants must be members of the current Junior Class.  Candidates for Virginia Girls State are chosen in a selection and interview process conducted by local American Legion Auxiliary Units. Candidates are evaluated on their leadership abilities, interest in government, service to others, and academic record. Junior girls who are interested in applying should see Mrs. Covington in the Counseling Office as soon as possible to pick up an application packet.  The deadline for returning completed packets to American Legion Auxiliary 364 is Feb. 26.

PWCS Summer Job Fair
High school students interested in employment with the Prince William County Public Schools summer program may participate in one of two upcoming job fairs:
  • Tuesday, March 8 at Potomac High School, 3401 Panther Pride Drive in Dumfries
  • Thursday, March 10 at Stonewall Jackson High School, 8820 Rixlew Lane in Manassas

Join us for our CISL Conference in March!!
Our annual CISL International Conference will be held on Saturday, March 5, 8:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. The keynote speaker is Dr. Christopher D. Yung, a favorite presenter of the past four years (click for bio).  Dr. Yung holds the Donald Bren Chair for Non-Western Strategic Thought at the Marine Corps University.  He has great stories to share of his own varied career path. Other sessions feature countries such as Mexico, India, Spain, countries of Africa, Bermuda and many more. For lunch, conference participants taste foods from Afghanistan, Mexico, Thailand and Italy, all from local restaurants. Dale City Civic Association Honors Hylton Student and Teachers
We congratulate Sara Howell on being presented the John D. Jenkins Youth Citizen of the Year Award and accompanying scholarship on Saturday, January 30, at the Dale City Civic Association's Awards Banquet. We are very proud of you, Sara! Our congratulations, too, go to Mrs. Lauren Wilson and Mr. Carlos Sampedro on being recognized as Hylton's nominees for the Dale City Teacher of the Year Award.

Volunteers Needed: Sophomore Interview Day
On April 21st, C.D. Hylton will be hosting Sophomore Interview Day. The purpose of Sophomore Interview Day is to provide our students with the proper interviewing skills needed to be competitive in securing employment in the world of work. We ask that you consider volunteering to become an "interviewer" and help us conduct interviews so our students are ready to interview in the real world. If you are interested in participating, please click here

Office 365 / Microsoft Office for Students
In addition to C.D. Hylton Google Apps accounts, PWCS is providing students with Microsoft Office 365 accounts. With this account comes licenses for the student to install MS Office 2013 software on up to 5 devices of his/her choice. Students must sign in to their accounts for the first time from a school computer. Students interested in registering for an account can see Mrs. Treichler in E165B.
